Summer to Fall: How to Transition Your Skincare Routine

It can take some time and a lot of patience to find the skincare routine that works well for you.  When you finally do, it is easy to assume that you should just stick with it indefinitely–or at least until your skin demands something different.  Actually, your skincare routine should change a bit more frequently in order to provide you with the best results.

Changing Your Skincare Routine From Summer to Fall

When the weather changes your hormones do as well, which means that the specific products you use to great results during the summer may be completely inappropriate during the fall and may even cause blemishes and irritation.  However, we all understand the penalties for making dramatic and sudden changes to our skincare routines, so following are some tips for ensuring a smoother transition:

● Personalize your skincare routine.  Whatever skincare routine you are switching from and to, it should take into account your age, your skin type and your climate.  Dryer climates may demand more hydration during cold, dry fall months, while humid climates may require much more subtle changes during cooler fall months.  If you’re unsure of how to personalize your skincare routine, ask an aesthetician or dermatologist for recommendations.

● Switch moisturizers.  Depending on where you live, you may find that your skin tends to be drier during fall than during summer, so you may need to switch to a more hydrating moisturizer.  If you live where brisk temperatures and occasional biting winds seek to penetrate your skin, you may want to consider a slightly thicker moisturizer.  Younger women may discover that it is best to stick with serums while older women may find that richer moisturizers help to protect their skin during cooler months.

● Introduce a face or body scrub to your skincare routine.  Gentle exfoliants, such as ones containing jojoba beads, can be a wonderful way to treat parched, flaky skin.  Only use it once or twice a week, though, as over-exfoliating your skin can lead to irritation and other issues.

It can be overwhelming to consider changing one’s skincare routine for the fall season, especially if one has worked hard to find a workable one for the summer.  However, just as we go through our closet to change our wardrobe for a change in season, our skin can benefit enormously from a routine that addresses the differences it will encounter.

Love,

Gen
